Exciting music from 12of the outstanding performing artists appearing
at electro-music 2005,
June 3-5, in Philadelphia.
The artists on this compilation are some of today's most
respected electro-musicians. Amy X Neuburg, Mark Jenkins,
Wave World, Xeroid Entity, Amaranth Signal,Orbital
Decay, Jake Swift, Recompas, ElectroBunny, TouchXtone, Fringe Element,
and Project Ruori are influential independent musicians.
This CD represents many of the undulating creative
cross-currents that are moving though the world of electro-music today.
Many different styles music are presented here; many new styles. The
result makes this CD an interesting and refreshing listening
experience. At times these tracks are rhythmical and pulsating, but
they are just as often electro-symphonic. There is some
electro-acoustic music in here, elements of glitch and IDM, andl vocal
and electro-acoustic music as well. Many compositional methods are
employed in this collection. Some of this music is thoroughly composed
to millisecond accuracy; some are recordings of live free improvisation
performances. There are many moods, but there is always a sence of
intelligence, exploriation, and the love of electronic music.
Analog Daze by Orbital
Decay opens the CD with a driving wash of
electronic sounds. It's a delightful appetizer for things to come.
Amy
X Neuburg's fabulous Tattoo Song
has everything, including some of the most beautiful vocal looping
you'll ever hear. In one song she ranges from ancient medieval chant to
electro-jazz and trip-hop. All it takes is one hearing this song to
understand why we call Amy by the title electro-diva.
Wave World's
Guardians of the Skies is both
haunting and enchanting. It explores by melody and lovely musical
textures. Wave World is one of the most well liked
electronic music bands.
Xeroid
Entity creates facinating evolving sonic images in Spirokete.
This free form improvization was recorded at a recent performance at
the famous Deer Head Inn, a distinguished jazz venue in eastern
Pennsylvania. At times this music takes on an almost symphonic quality.
Jake Swift's Anikulapo
is a lively and bright; a step in the direction of electro-jazz.
Nur Man Ist Hier by Recompas is
moody and from the rock/jazz tradition.
In Nameless Creek by Project Ruori
covers many different styles tied together by a light acoustic bass
line and female voices. At times this sounds like folk music,
progressive jazz, and even has elements of IDM glitch.
Fringe
Element's Breeding Facility
is taken from their popular CD, Rampant Biology is
a very pleasant blend of electronic sequences and light-hearted
melodies.
TouchXtone
brings us Dub Chill 1, a relaxed
jazzy piece with an electro-acoustic feel and a gentile beat.
Cytikal by ElectroBunny
takes a simple very pleasant repeating note sequence and skillfully
develops through several electro-music styles such as IDM and space
music.
Araranth
Signal's Resurrection of the
Sphere is a subdued but beautiful sonic voyage of
very sensitive space music with an underwater feel.
Moon Child by England's Mark Jenkins
concludes this excellent collection on an upbeat tempo and a positive
tone.
