For
the first time
is internationally available this CD by Seraph
recorded in 1997 and
published in Italy in 2001 by O.L.G.A.
Organization, a now defunct
independent label.
This is what Seraph
wrote
presenting this album:
This
record is like
an "archipelago"
of ideas that
developed over a
very long period of time. Like Vulcan in his forge, I locked myself
in my home studio working on the almost endless task of shaping my
"jewels". I often began by recording improvisations which, once saved
in the computer, became the starting point for new songs.
Carlo
Serafini was born in
Florence, Italy in 1957. He started
studying pop
and jazz music in 1973 with private piano teachers. He later attended
the Cherubini
Conservatory in Florence
, where he studied percussion
and computer music for five years . In the meantime, he worked as a
pianist and keyboard player in jazz and pop bands in and around
Florence. He also taught piano and wrote commercial jingles.
In
1986, he received a scholarship to study at the Berklee College of
Music in Boston, MA, USA.
There he studied harmony, arranging,
composition, acoustics and electronic music. In 1989 he graduated
Summa Cum Laude with a major in computer music. Afterwards, he worked
for one year as a lab monitor in the same department. In 1990, he moved
back to Italy and worked as an assistant for Joe Zawinul
and David
Mash at the Umbria Jazz Festival.
Since
then, he has dedicated himself to composing, arranging and working as a
sound designer in many different styles of electronic music ranging
from jazz to classical to children's songs to new age. He has also
performed extensively with his groups. Carlo spends much of his time in
his home recording studio where he works on a variety of projects. He
is on the editorial staff of electro-music.com.
