S.O. BAR bOURNEMOUTH - 18.03.2004.1530.0200.

This event looks at how computers are being used to perform ‘live’ music. Our attempt express human gesture through digital media is one way of defining our era. Music is the perfect arena to explore this issue as it divides purists and experimentalist in equal measure (eg ‘Keep Music Live’ vs the DJ). The subject will be approached through live performance and discussion of music using technology – from high-end studios to lo-fi equipment. We hope to intrigue artists, students and clubbers alike by offering them something more thought provoking than a rave or club night, and more stimulating then a lecture. The event is divided into 3 areas; Master-classes and seminars during the day, performances and sets in the evening and long-term online forum. Dance or electronic orientated artists (certainly those invited to this event) tend to have particularly strong and informed views on the work they produce and the issues surrounding production so it should make for interesting viewing and listening.
