Hello everyone,

This is my first posting on this site, so please help a brother out. I was looking through youtube for electro-pop style music when I came across this video.

The intstrument in question is the guitar looking thing with the red buttons. It's like guitar hero guitar on steroids. I was wondering if anyone could steer me in the direction of any information on how I might rig something like that up. I am aware of how difficult something like this is, I'm just in awe of how awesome of a design it is for an instrument.

I appreciate any feedback.

Welcome to e-m.com Wobblebottom!
welcome

It doesn't look terribly complicated (velocity or pressure sensitive). Really, they look like they're made from Arcade Game parts: The joystick used for strumming (and they even look like switches). Each button just has a switch and a light under it. Those would trigger a midi brain/controller. If you don't have your own design for a midi brain to convert the switches to midi, there are quite a few out there. Some sold as devices, some as kits, and plenty of completely free designs, too. But that depends on your soldering and programming skills.

Icubex is a top-notch midi converter if you bought one, then just connect your switches to it. If, google "DIY MIDI switch", and it'll open the door for you to the many do-it-yourself projects out there.
