Post some great places to buy knobs, I've settled on the model for my modular, but would love to use some more interesting options on individual smaller projects. Colors and sci-fi appeal a plus!! Obviously the best stuff is coming off old lab gear and the like, but aint much of that turning up around these parts...the human scavengers never sleep; I missed a full size weighted piano keyboard assembly out of the trash recently Crying or Very sad Mad

Buy a 3/4" dowel of Birch or Poplar and make your own! Very Happy I get 48 knobs out of a 4 foot dowel, for about $4.00 Smile And a little bit of work.

Thank you much! Smile Many don't look as good as I wish. Usually when I'm doing them, I'm rushing it a bit. They help get each knob's function across at least, which has been really handy. Smile

Thank you much as well! Smile Smile
Tell your family; tell your friends - rush out to pick up some dowels and have a knob making party, this Sat'day night or sumthin'. Wink
The amount you'd save compared to commercial knobs, is huge. Plus - you can colour them, any way that you want. Very Happy

That has been the biggest bitch-slap since I started in '05 with the cork knobs, originally. Sad I started changing to wood, 1 year ago.

- Surgical gloves as a roughage, didn't work very well
- Clear silicone, would loose it's grip if forced too much
- Glue gun glue, wouldn't adhere to the aluminum shafts for very long
- Sinking in threaded bits, would strip the wood too easily

I've now used LePage's #11 2 part epoxy which is best for wood and metal. The only minor bummer there - it's basically permanent. I have to make 100% sure, that the panel is final, before epoxying the knobs to the shafts.

At the $ savings / knob though - WHO cares?? Very Happy LOL I'm still happy as heck with the entire situation. Smile

I've got a big collection of knobs.
One box of imperial (which was greatly expanded when I decide to change the knobs I wanted to use on the Sorcerer), and another box full of metric (which quickly grew when I decided to canabilize a Fostex 8ch recording mixer).
Even so, I've often thought about "rolling my own". Potting them from epoxy is definitely feasible. Still, I'd need to come up with a design which was original enough to justify the trouble.
Fimo is another possibility.
It really is the final frontier in making truely unique equipment.

Taiwan Knobs has a great selection of standard and not-so-standard knobs and switch-caps and can make custom items for you.
They have a minimum order of somewhere around 500-100 pieces i think.

If cheap is part of your knob equation, have a look at this site. (theres much of interest here to this group, actually):

http://www.electronicpeasant.com/projects/ssdrums/ssdrums.html

I feel a bit weird typing this as I've settled on Davies Molding 1900-H's for my system, which are really effin' expensive. But aesthics are important to me (or so I keep telling myself. limp limp.) I'm able to justify it to myself because I'm able to make my panels for under a couple dollars each

( drunken delusional drunken )

I have also settled on the davies 1900, buying them from Mouser. At first I was kinda bummed that they have no indicator line, but now I like it cuz I will be painting on my own lines/dots etc.

But man oh man they are exactly perfect for my layouts, and oh so comfortable and nice and shiny and...

That's funny, because I bought some knobs that look like this a few months ago. I just don't remember where. www.musikding.de probably, but they only show gold couloured sones of that shape on their site ...

The Gold Cliff ones are the Marshall amp design. I think it's a rule that if you use these your scales must go up to 11.

The knobs Jurgen Shows I used quite a bit. I think Rapid still do them. Conrad may have dropped them because they are not ROHS compliant. Maplin did them too, but at an outrageous price. Is Maplin '"Pollin" in germany?

The left one in the picture looks right, but the description is for the right one. (Need one with 30mm height!)
I remember in the German Conrad catalogue, these two used to be paired as well, so maybe Swedish Conrad crries the other one as well.

I checked Conrad Germany again. They have the same knobs as Conrad Sweden.
But that "left" Knob seems to be a smaller version of what I used to have (29mm diameter, 18mm height)
