Hey everyone! I'm pretty new with this stuff, and I'm trying to make a synth where the upper half of my MIDI keyboard plays a sine synth that goes through an effect, and I want the bottom half of the keyboard to control the parameters of the effect... Can anybody help me?

What do you have so far? It's not too difficult a problem. Where are you stuck?

I have several Max examples that you may find helpful up at http://www.xfade.com/max/examples

I have made a simple sine synth so far... I guess the effect is added just by adding it to the synth signal flow (?), but I don't know how to assign the effect to the keys, as described in my first post.

Yeah, you would add the effect on the output of your simple synth. If you used poly~ to implement your synth, it would go between the output of poly~ and the dac.

To separate the lower octave, you could use an object like split on the stream of numbers from notein. Or a switch controlled by a < on the note stream, which routed the notes below some threshold one place, and the ones above the threshold to your synth.

There are many ways to do just about anything in Max.

This Max list is pretty quiet. The Cycling '74 Max list is much more active.
