Hello folks,

This is my first time posting here but it will not be my last, as I'm starting to build a Soundlab.

I don't have much experience with electronics (except for a loads of simple kits and a few passive modules for my eurorack system) so any help would be useful. You seem like a very helpful bunch of chaps anyway...

My first question is, will it make a difference if i use 1% tolerance resistors instead the 5% ones. Would it be OK to use all 1%?

I have lots of extra 1%s and am yet to buy any 5% ones. My understanding is the tolerance means margin of error, right?

Can anyone help.

Also, how simple will it be to make a patched out (banana jack) version? I've looked over Ray's schematics but I'm wondering if it might be a little advanced for a novice like myself.

Any suggestions or encouraging words from the patched out users?

Thanks for reading and i hope you can help.

Take care

Right, the only difference is that the 1% will typically vary less from the actual resistance value.

Great! Keep it that way. Laughing
Most of us are using up the 5% where suitable and only buy 1% metal film if at all possible.
When 5% were the "standard" 1% were considerably more expensive than they are now. You only used 1% if the schematic demanded it, which meant that it really mattered how accurate the value was. Now we live in a time where 5% 1/4W are about AU$0.025 and 1% 1/2W are AU$0.031 each. It just doesn't make sense to buy 5% anymore. Especially for Synth DIY where carbon types (most 5%) values change considerably with temperature, and metal film (most 1%) vary much less, if at all.
