Subject description: From ding-dong to Beethoven's 5th?

Anyone know how to hack a doorbell so instead of "ding-dong" I can make it do something of my choosing? I'm thinking it would be great fun to run the sound out to a small outdoor speaker mounted above the door so I can open the door with a flourish, perhaps after the first few notes of Beethoven's 5th, and announce ENTROOD!

I haven't a clue either - but I did find this.

Maybe it could be hacked to control a favourite analogue behemoth Very Happy

Or how about a surround sound doorbell, with a woofer beneath the step?

I'd do it with an Arduino, motion sensor and some speakers. You could also put like Bach on Sunday, Beethoven on Monday, Brahms on Tuesday, Bartok on Wednesday, Berg on Thursday, Boulez on Friday and Berio on Saturday.

I don't think you can't do much with hacking a doorbell.
But there are cheap doorbells available that play all kinds of melodies.
Or maybe you can get a chip from the UM348x series.

Of course you could also use an arduino or pic as mentioned and program it yourself. Rolling Eyes

yeah probablly the Arduino is a lot more than what you need, but you can add all sorts of useless stuff to make it more fun and it's pretty easy, won't take much time. Wink
