Would this plus the BCR 2000 be a fair trade for the JD800? I am not sure about the programmer right now. I just have never played a JX 8p. I also have a P08 and am wondering how similar these 2 DCO synths would be. As always any advice is appreciated. My JD 800 is in excellent shape with just a couple of rub marks on top (not scratched through the paint). There is a JX 3p with the pg200 (?) for sale locally for $280. How close to the 3p is the 8p sound wise as I could try to stop by and have a listen.

I haven't played any of these synths but I've been doing a lot of research into the jxes recently and listening to lots of demos. That sounds like a fair trade to me - I'd probably rather have the jx8p plus sysex knob box than the jd800 (even though that thing looks really cool - I'm not that into wavetable synthesis) and the jxes sound nice from what I've heard - they probably don't sound as nice as the prophet 08 though - that probably sounds more raw and analog and is more versatile with the vcos. the jxes seem to sound 80s and synthpoppy in a warm crunchy way. People seem to think the jx3p sounds more raw than the jx8p and that matches the demos I've heard - I like the sound of the 3p better but it seems like it has some crappy points like not being able to use midi in and the programmer at the same time and no velocity sensitivity. I'm sure the jx8p is capable of some raw stuff on patches without the chorus. Seems like deep editing is possible and it has some nice features. I guess the aftertouch is usually shot on them. I'd snap up that jx3p if I saw it - where are you located?

Ended up straight trade for a very good condition Juno 60. Bought the Minerva kit and just need to install it.

I recently got a JX-8P in a nice deal. Spent about 5-6 hours repairing its aftertouch, finished that tonight and now it's nearly as new. It's an amazing synth: it instantly transports you to the 80's.

The sounds are said to be more 'metallic' than the JX-3P, but I find them immensely inspiring. I have 3 other synths. including 2 which are fantastic and one which is 'so-so', and only the JX-8P inspired me to compose new songs after quite a long hiatus.

There are some nifty Sync and Cross-Mod modes in it.

A controller for it would come in handy.

I wish I could mod it... but nobody mods a JX-8P apparently, so I'll be the first to do that Razz
