Ok, how I begin?
How about a STM32F103CB ARM Cortex M3, 72MHZ, 128kb Flash, 20kb SRAM programmed with the Arduino API and(!) USB_MIDI HID (so the device is shown as USB MIDI device on you computer, without driver installation (Linux, OSX, Win) for less than 4 USD?
Pardon for my lurid words Wink
So more technical:
I've done a fork of, better: consolidation, of the Arduino_STM32 project and the leaflabs_maple USB_MIDI project. It's a rough add on for the Arduino 1.6xx API.
You can get a leaflabs maple mini clone for under 4 USD on aliexpress or ebay. You can program it Arduino style with "build in" MIDI features (tried everything out, even MIDI clock sync, except sysex) . After programming, the device shows up as "USB-MIDI device".
possible use: USB-Midi controller, USB-CV Interface, Sequencer, USB MIDI Interface, Synth Panel with TFT....
Rough example (just coding a few lines within 15 minutes): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-jvCRHCk7wQ
Download link for the arduino addon:

Install instructions: https://github.com/rogerclarkmelbourne/Arduino_STM32/wiki
please note the credits in my github readme -> Honor to whom honor is due!
It is also a good idea, while programming, to have the original branch installed:
https://github.com/rogerclarkmelbourne/Arduino_STM32
because serial.usb is disabled in my branch, so there is no debugging possibility (yes, you can also do it with all other HW serial ports and a cheap serial-usb converter)

regards
Matthias
