Akai AX80 * Chicago * Subject description: [ vintage 80's analogue polysynth with MIDI ] |

For now I'd like to limit this to a local Chicago area sale only, sorry - I'm sincerely not wanting to ship this crazy huge-sounding, Death Star-looking, heavy as a barrel of cinderblocks synth from Akai.
This is the sound of Mark Bell's synthesized sounds on Björk's Homogenic album.
4 x LFO's and an amazing filter make some really insane sound effects possible.
Funky retro lightshow to rival Roland's Jupiters.
8 voice polyphony - 61 keys - MIDI - sub-oscillator - 4 LFO's - 24dB/oct resonant LPF & HPF

AX80's are notorious for eventually loosing contact between the buttons and different PCB's due to a design flaw/oversight/over-optimism. The previous owner repaired this and it should now be good for the next century or so.
I bought this recently for $370 and had the power supply rebuilt for $200 (by Steve at Midwest Music Menders), so I'm obviously selling at a loss. However, this particular unit has some noticeable wear - highlighted in the photos below - and I really can't justify asking more than $400 for it. In fact, I'll even take a fair offer, or incorporate trade (I'm looking for an R8M, RM50, Electrix MOFX, and for a 1RU stereo line mixer). Don't get me wrong, it's not a total beater. I bought it online from a seller who described it as being in "very good condition". The worst is some scuffing or tape residue or something over the VCA section of the display. The display is perfectly clear and legible underneath, but it's certainly a bummer that a previous owner did that. (The rest of the display is fine, btw).
