I was looking into building a simple EQ using a ready-made IC that needs some external components. The datasheet is minimal with two formulas to calculate Q and freq. If I understand correctly, higher Q means a smaller bandwidth and more boost & cut and lower Q affects the other way around. What I would like to know is how to calc. the boost/cut (dB) according to the Q at a specific freq. ?

I believe the maxiumum boost/cut is going to be constant. The Q really just affects the bandwidth.
It's odd that they don't specify the boost/cut involved, but most of these chips are generally set up for +/- 12db
