Re-capping is really a hit or miss deal - Most people avoid it like the plage with good reason: you are digging around and touching many things you did not have a hand in designing!!!

The evidence for re-capping is mostly anecdotal, however in my case on the Pulse+ I reworked, I noticed a difference and it was not subtle.

The decision to cap or not to cap should primarily be what you want your Pulse to sound like.

If you have an older Pulse and you like the warm, soft sound as the caps degrade, don't touch it.

If you want to try your hand at a lower noise floor, cleaner output and want to hear some of the finer (glitches) of the oscillators, then go for it!!!

For me I noticed higer output after the retrofit, so I needed to turn down the levels on the oscillators and global volume by 6db, and I noticed the sound was grittier than with the older caps.

The original caps in this synth were in the mid to low grade category. The kit that I used from muzikelektronik has mid to high grade audio-quality materials - (I am not sure if they are mil-spec - You will need to ask him)

After 8 hours of careful work with solder wick and an iron, I powered up and went through all the patches and listened for changes from what I remember before the swap and was really surprised. There is a break-in time as the Pulse tries to find it's sweet spot with the new charge/discharge characteristics, but I noticed more detail and sharpness to the sound. Overall, I would not say it is for everybody, but I definitely did not waste my time Smile

Enjoy the pics Smile
