My Evolver arrived! |
 |
|
Yup,
I'm not just dealing with a G2 as my sound source around here (and a few VSTs). A nice blue box with 8 knobs arrived today! Nice squelchy filters!
Change is good.
Now if I only didn't have to leave town for the weekend :{

true. it is small enough to take with me!
Twekaing it last night produced some really sick results ... it's just different sounding from the Nord G2, which is a big relief for me ... with all my G2 sequencer based experience, messing up the evolver is pretty easy ...
should be fun to connect the 2 together ...

H,
The only problem I found with the evolver was wanting more, I ended up buying the PEK as well (which I love) and now need a rack as well.
The cost mounts up!
Cheers

Hi Dasz,
This is concerning the psicraft editor :
It is still beta but for me it is very stable I get no problems at all with it.
Over the last 6 months it has improved greatly, there is a forum on yahoo for it and psicraft have listenen to all feedback from users and implemented changes/bug fixes.
Version 0.98 was released a couple of days ago but I have not had a chance to play with it yet, this will probably be the last beta release. Version 1 should be released in the new year.
Also if you purchase the beta then you get version 1 and version 2 for free when they are released.
For me it doubled the usefullness of the desktop evolver, I also use it for the PEK even though it has all those knobs!
Overall it is one of my best purchases.
Cheers

| I've really been looking at these, since I feel in the same position as you Dasz. I use the G2 along with sequencing, VSTs, and sampling on a PC. The Evolver fits a nice niche that my current gear leaves open. And it seems to fit that niche so very nicely. *lust* |

dirty electro-musician!
Mostly, it's the big open red space on my G2. I constantly cycle through what I put there. |

Thanks for the info, Andy.
I'm considering the editor, and I did try the wave dump utility.
I'll be programming the hell with evolver's the 8 knob matrix, until I am truly convinced this is the box for me -- and so far it certainly looks that way. Once I have made a final decision, then I'll get the editor.
The only competition to the Evolver is considering a Microwave XT since I had a Microwave II a long time ago. I do miss the interpolating wave tables but then the mw is a VA and not true analog and the Evolver certainly is (& this is something I have been missing for a looong time).
And happy new years to all!

To quote a post on the Clavia NM/G2 discussion forum post:
"... having a Dave Smith Evolver is making me forget about caring about this new Clavia mystery model or hoping for a new OS for the G2. I recently figured out how to make it sound like (if not better) than a SCI Pro-One I used to have -- "friggin, eh, friggin right!" (a Canadian proverb meaning right on!). Heh heh heh "
To put it nicely, this thing rocks! I like it more and more every day. Thanks Rob!

Be careful of the knobs after awhile they become loose and fall off .
I recently looked at my evo desktop and found one knob missing.
A qiuck shot e-mail to dave smith and he was gracious enough to send me two.(YOU DIDN'T HEAR THIS FROM ME!)
Check those knobs before and after tweaking.

Dave informed me of a wonderful trick -- put scotch tape over the shaft of the potentiometer. then slide the knob over it. Allow me to illustrate in ASCII:
_| |_
Apply tape over
| | (this involves running a think strip over two sides of the shaft & over the top/tip) -- by putting the knob back onto the shaft, the connection is a lot more solid and now the knobs stick like on a, Clavia Nord "*"....
thanks Dave for the cool solution. I wish it was implemented in the factory, but then nothing is perfect

They improved this on the keyboard.
The knobs on my desktop come off alot but I have never had one come off on the keyboard.
Cheers
