Hey All,
I'm looking to do something like this:

I have 20 piezo sensors. I'm going to make a cross section of some foam rubber and glue the senor to sheet metal...then put the sheet metal in the middle and glue the foam rubber back together.
My questions are:
1) What cord do I need to have coming out of each trigger? At the end of each sensor is a ground(black) and active(red) wire.
2) How can I convert that signal in Reaktor/Reason to equal the sound of the drum getting struck?
3) Can I have all the drum triggers (all 20 of them) come together in a single cord that goes into my computer and have them recognized seperately? [I'm pretty sure the answer to this is no...but not positive]

...you will need some kind of trigger to midi interface to make this work. there are lots of options...several of the drum modules have them, and there are standalone options as well. try a google search on "trigger to midi".

thanks...i was hoping I wouldn't have to use a drum module. Putting my DIY nature aside...I'm a broke college student haha. Alright thanks.

...there are diy options (although all include running a microprocessor of some kind), and also older devices. the casio dz1 will do it, and there is a current roland product as well:

The way I've built mine was centered around some cheapy trigger-midi interface that I picked up for £40, then solder the ends of the piezo transducers onto cables as long as you like, then onto 3.5mm headphone connectors (in my case) mono, which you can then connect to the trigger-midi box.
Hey presto, velocity sensitive pads.
So the answer is, YES. You can have it all coming through one cable (if you use USB, or MIDI) but you can't just stick the piezo wires straight into your PC, you need an interface in between.

PC's always have been designed quite poorly concerning communication with input signals for a direct triggering.
Apart from keyboard or mouse. So a hardware interface is quite inevitable.
But that interface often will need extra software to function properly.
I once made a system to start the PC playing a soundfile, from another room as the PC, by modding the mouse,
by bridging the left-button contacts with a relay.
First I had to position the mouse in the app above the play-button.
The relay was controlled by the chain :
Any tv-remote
Infrared detector
Increased pulse-length after a trigger, so the 'command' string becomes one single pulse.
Shorten the pulse-length again to create the proper mouse-click so close the relay.
The way of using hardware ports for communication has been changed.
Web-traffic via e.g. a LAN-card, not via the serial connector any more.
Printers can be USB connected, so the parallel port is left.
Technically seen, this provides many new free communication lines.
Suppose the drum hardware is connected to the parallel port and triggers bit 3 of the data-byte, meaning a PC command to play sample 3.
