I agree with the comments on how the G2 lacks balls on certain sounds, but I have a feeling it is to do with the internal processing/bit-rate. Even if the G2 coding was polished, it still wouldn't sound like the NM1 (on certain sounds)
The G2 is very pristine and bright - almost anti-analogue. Pro Tools HD Pre-amps get the same criticism as people want warmth - they capture the perfect sound without adding any extra character.
Emu SPD12 - 12 bit sampling - it has an amazing sound that nothing these days seems to capture - Hip hop producers kill for these machines. Its as if by recording at the lower bit-rate, its giving it the sound the color.
My favourite, and most simple patch created on the NM1 just doesn't sound right on the G2 - the patch, is a filthy undergraound 'I'm going to take your head off' drum and bass distortion sound. My high definition G2 doesn't seem to know what to do with it - it sounds over-produced, and defeats the purpose of the patch (you can't take people heads off nicely! )
On the positive side of the G2 - it has more potential for sound design, which the Nm1 couldn't get near.
I could be wrong, but that's what I think. |

Well, I can do nothing but agree.
The G2 is more flexible and can do more sound types I think. I had however not been listening to the Classic for quite a long time and could not help but noticeing that certain types of sound would be pretty hard to do for the G2. Those sound types seem to have in common that they search the extremes of the Classic. Like heavy filter resonation, or delay loop distortion, or the instabilities occurring for extreme FM. Stuff like that.
Did I mention the perc osc ...
Anyway, certain simple things done on the Classic had a kind of sex that's not obtainable with the G2 - erm ... seems hard to obtain ... I mean.

Ok, problem is clear, will see what I can do, tomorrow. Seems doable with a resetable counter. _________________ Jan

The converter prooves that this is not a DA problem at all..its just some modules that dont sound wright...
there is crosstalk between delays of neighbor slots...that has to be a bug for example
to the problem:
see atached patch...lower perc osc plays 3 tones..40 clocks later the upper gets trigered by the link button |
what happened to the download for 1.1?

For me thats a bug... the work on the converter showed me very much where differences are and where not...
There is a common sonic missmatch in certain modules that has the same charakter, ...its subtile but effective...reminds me to crosstalk and distortion phenomens in the analog domain.
As long nobody gives me a good reason why this have to be, on the same archtiekture where other modules just sound identical, i see this as something that should be adressed. |

There was a nasty bug introduced. I think it was fixed and now 3phase is testing it. It should be there soon. It'll be version 1.2 as I don't like to reuse version numbers that have been released.

Before the G2, I read quite a lot of complaints about the NM sound, digital, cold, harsh, buzzy etc etc. I think Clavia just tried to improve things. Can't please everyone though, some people prefer Zildjian to Paiste. |

I spend so much time in my life with trouble shooting thru listening...
its not just another sound..its dirt thats causing the feedbacks to blow away.. All this discussion in the beginning about different converters and HF on the outputs... Its the subtile hardness in certain sounds that irritated the users that came from the old machiene... We found our way around and some new tricks..but that dont changes the fact that some modules are not as nice as in the NM1...just a few... but its incredible how much exactly these modules made a trademark sound... Blue Hell has described it pretty good. |

Are you sure ?
I didn't knowingly delete anything ... and I'm pretty sure no one else did as it's customary amongst moderators to at least make a note of such actions (except for evident spam). It's not really easy either to delete accidentily, and regular users should not be able to delete posts that have replies.
So it seems a bit unlikely to me ... _________________ Jan

This is a great selection of tools. I have one more idea, and would like to be able to take MIDI files (patterns) and put them straight into sequencers in a Patch file.
Maybe this is my introduction to python, I'll have to find a MIDI file parser for python to start with. |

I"m pretty sure One pf the g2ools threads was up to 8 pages. I had been thinking it was the largest thread I'd seen- in the G2 forum, and that maybe it needed it's own domain |

Thanks for the DX2G2 tool.
What exactly is it expecting as input?
It just returns quickly to a prompt with no message on sysex bank files, with or without headers. |

Good question.. i am done with Nm1 conversion bug search for a while...
but i know from past experiance that the DX models on the NM can be highly improved by digitizers at the wright points for example..like to do a 1:1 comparison with my DX7 just to see how it translates and to maybe do some tweaks...
the stepped portamento needs to be simulated.... when its not done yet...
Thats an important feature of the DX 7´s
In ideal the G2 would not only sound like a DX 7..it would react on the keyboard the same way the DX does...afterwards the DX 7 can go |

using the 1.2 version all patches were rejected for these reasons:
--------------------
"/Users/Hyde/Desktop/Keepers/ThreeSwedishGirlsOnIce.pch"
IOError(2, 'No such file or directory')
--------------------
"/Users/Hyde/Desktop/Keepers/Thumper.pch"
added missing [Header]
IndexError('list index out of range',)
-------------------- |

If you are having problems, load the .pch into the NM1 editor and resave it. Your previous post had a message about adding a missing [Header]. That suggests the file is corrupted. Plus, if you post a failed patch, someone can look at it and possibly fix the problem.

[edit] re-downloaded the g2ools 1.2 app and re-ran it and it worked. still failed on a bunch though. anyone willing to download the folder and see why several are failing?
here is the patch folder of some of my favorite NM1 patches:
