Subject description: Do i need it on my midi controller

So basically i am looking to buy a midi controller and after looking around i have found the Korg microKontrol, but i found this controller does not have after-touch, (even the Korg Kontol 49 doesn't) now with this being the only feature that it is missing compared to other ones out there, is it important.

The music I will be making is minimal electro/techno or idm, so is after touch important, is it easy to recreate it using software such as reason and is this approach cumbersome??

Can you recommend any other controllers out there or combinations of products?

As i have not played around with keyboards before i do not know what options after-touch opens up and really need some good sound advice

Thanks

After touch would let you (for example) add vibrato or perhaps make the sound brighter and/or louder half way through a note by increasing the pressure the key is held down. I have aftertouch on the G2 key but don't use it that much, I prefer pitch bend + mod wheel played with my left hand.

It's a performance thing so if your going to be sequencing stuff rather than playing live, it probably would not be missed.

As G2ian states, it's a nice feature but certainly not essential; especially for someone just starting out. EMU has a nice controller that is priced competitively, and I believe it has aftertouch.

i think aftertouch is very important for 'perfomance' action

adds a gestural element

as well, aftertouch can usually be routed as a controller for many parameters

like VCF cutoff etc etc

i would rate it as an 'essential' feature of a midi controller
