Hey. Smile

I was wondering how I would be able to generate robot-like voice effects, like the ones often used by Daft Punk (See "Robot Rock" and the very beginning of "Around the World" at http://myspace.com/daftpunk). Is there an effects pedal or software that could take input and change it in real time? That would be great, but if there is also one that is not real time, I could use that, too.

Thanks!

The track utilizes a vocoder.

Check out this track by Howard Moscovitz

Things have been kind of slow (due to the holiday) -- in the meantime, you might want to search this site for "vocoder" and see what you can find.

Kevin is right. You are hearing a vocoder.

A lot of the low budget Roland and and Korg synths have built-in vocoders.

One excellent option is a Chameleon DSP + and the most excellent Infiltrator software ( written by one of our most excellent moderators).

EXCELLENT!

Cool

Thanks! You guys know of any free software vocoders? I've been looking everywhere, and I have an EXTREMELY tight budget.

I usually start looking for free software at sourceforge. This link got me four hits on "vocoder":

http://sourceforge.net/search/?type_of_search=soft&words=vocoder

There didn't seem to be any big projects, but maybe something will suit you? I didn't check any deeper than the search.

Cheers!

/Stefan

Any audio recording and editing software will be of use. Suggests to try FlexiMusic Wave Editor, from the menu, choose "Effects" option where in select "Modulate" command, by using various frequencies, can modulate your voice to create special sounds. Can modulate voice with a lower frequency in the range 60 to 200 to create special voice sounds (synthetic, robot or animal voices etc).

It sounds like(voice effect)the vocals are running through a DIY Speak & Spell. I've seen them on eBay, but never w/ an input option.

You can't get an input on a speak and spell. All the voice sounds on it are actually synthesised from wave tables. The "speak and spell" sound is a product of the sampling technology of the time, not a built in effect.
