Problem with Global Modulation Wheels on G2X |
|
|
I hope you guys can help me. I haven't been able to get the global modulation wheels to work on my G2X since I bought it. I can easily morph settings using the mod wheel, the pitch stick, and the control pedal; and assign them to whatever parameters I want. But whenever I try to adjust the settings on the global modulation wheels, it doesn't seem to work. I can adjust the settings like the other morph units (baseline and adjusted) but when I turn the wheel I don't hear any difference. The LCD on the setting I adjusted changes to a value from its name when I turn the respective global modulation wheel, but the value is nothing as great as what I originally set it to and there is no noticeable difference in sound.
Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Not sure I understand the problem. AFAIK, the two extra mod wheels are only used if you assign them to a morph group. Wheel 1 to morph 5 and wheel 2 to morph 8. _________________ --Howard

Thanks for your reply, Howard
The problem is that when I make assignments to either morph 8 (G.Wheel2) or morph 5 (G.Wheel 1), the respective global modulation wheel won't respond when I turn it to the assignments I made. Other morphs respond to my assignments and I can clearly hear the sound change. I am hoping there is something about setting the global modulation wheels up that I don't know to know rather than considering that something is broken or disconnected in my G2X.
Thanks for your help!

I don't have an X but AFAIK, clicking the button below Morph knob 5/8 so that it cycles through to G.Wh.1/G.Wh.2 and then using them like the other morphs is all that is required.
If they both don't work, could be just an unconnected plug inside. Chances of both pots failing at the same time are very small. |

Thanks for your help, G2ian
It's great having experts like Howard, you, and others around for advice.
Well, I pulled the cover off my G2x and looked inside to see if any plugs were loose. No such luck. The global modulation wheels are on the same small rectangular board as the mod wheel and pitch wheel. Both of them work fine and all the connections looked true and snug. If the global mod wheel lines were longer I might have tried switching them out with the good mod wheel pot as a troubleshooting approach.
I am of the old school thought that always looks for something simple to be the fault first. I am still hoping there is some simple G2X setting I don't know about that someone will tell me about.
During my exploration, I noticed that the expansion board in the G2 looks very easy to install. What a nice Christmas 2007 present it would be if Clavia made a new expansion board with twice the number of DSPs and polyphony. We would all probably beg our beloveds to buy us one which could considerably help Clavia's 4th quarter cash flow. |

No, there is no special setting. Just assign the parameter in the patch to the morph group 5 and/or 8, and as Ian mentioned, in the Editor make sure the button under the morph knob shows that the global wheel is selected. That is all you need to do to get the global mod wheels to work. _________________ varice |
