Note that we rented the castle starting Monday morning July 30th. It is possible to arrive at the place earlier and book beds in the guesthouse next door. You would have to do that yourself.
The estate cannot be visited before Monday morning, as it is most probably rented to other people before Monday.
I will dig up a list of nice guesthouses in Amsterdam and The Hague for those that arrive before Monday and are flying in at Amsterdam Airport. But note that it will be peak tourist season in Amsterdam, so early bookings might be a good idea.
We can accomodate some people in The Hague, let me know if you are interested. |

Hi Rob & etc,
I'm planning to arrive at Amsterdam airport either Saturday 28th or Sunday 29th (depending on how it affects the flight cost) and I can take the train to Den Haag immediately after the flight arrives if there is somewhere for me to stay in Den Haag for a night or two. Then I would go to the event with whatever group is going on the 30th, either sharing a ride or by train.
Even if there is no space for me to stay with someone on the 28th/29th, I plan to arrive on one of those days anyway and I can book a room at the little hotel I stayed at when I was there before. Let me know, OK?
Also, has there been any progress on an international payment method? I don't want to wait too long and lose my space at the event, so if I have to do a wire transfer please let me know.
Thanks,

Right, I guess you (and maybe others ?) didn't receive the email I sent out about a week ago. Well here it is :
Quote: | Hi everyone,
We have been looking at the best way to do transatlantic money transfers
from the US to Europe and found out that, no matter what sort of a
construction is used, like a bank transfer, PayPal, Western Union, a
collective transfer, etc., it is always a complicated matter.
According to today's exchange rate tables (published in the newspapers and
on the Internet) the equivalent of 400 Euro is 520 USD. But..., to actually
get 400 Euro on a European bank account there is always two extra costs
involved, (1) the costs for the exchange from dollar to euro and (2) the
costs for the actual transfer. Some of you have already found out that those
two costs can accumulate to something like $45 to $60.
We have been looking at using PayPal, but it turns out that if the exchange
costs are added to the percentage PayPal takes for their own profit the
total costs would still be $45 to $60. Howard Moscovitz has offered to
collect the money in the US through the electro-music store by PayPal, but
then there still would be the additional exchange cost and there would be no
real net gain, as the gain of one single transfer to Europe would be nulled
out by the percentage PayPal takes on the individual transfers within the
US. Note that the exchange costs are a fixed percentage of the amount to be
exchanged.
So, we decided that the most convenient method is still to transfer money
directly to the special account that Jan Punter opened to collect the
attendance fees. This means that you should make sure that 400 Euro arrives
at this account. Of course we regret that the costs to attend are increased
by these transfer and exchange costs. All we can do (and will do) is put all
of our effort in making the Event a success and a real pleasurable
experience to you.

Hi Jan,
Aha, no problem, I'll send a wire transfer. Not sure why I didn't get the email, perhaps it got routed to junk mail and I didn't notice it when deleting junk.
BTW, it seems that I am no longer getting email auto-notifications when a thread I have participated in gets further posts. These can be a big help in threads like this. Can one of you guys take a look at that maybe?
Thanks & see you guys in a few months! _________________ Dave Peck |

Dave
check your profile and make sure that

is turned on
check also your posts on this thread: press the Edit button and see if the notification tag is turned on (probably not). _________________ homepage - blog - forum - youtube

Hi Jan,
Yup, the notification option is still turned on in both places - in my profile preferences and when I press the Edit button and go to the Edit Post page. But still I get no notification (I didn't get a notification when you sent the preceding email - I had to log in and check this thread). I haven't changed any settings on my PC, is there anything I should check?
Thanks! _________________ Dave Peck |

Dave,
I looked into the mesage you posted and somehow the notify option for replies on the mesage itself was not turned on. When following Carlo's advice above that's not something that should happen, but when the software decides to just not do it there is not really much I can do about it. What I did now was that I edited your post to (re)request mail notification for follow ups. When this does not help maybe it's something for Howard to look into. _________________ Jan

Sorry to tie up the thread with this... I just checked my profile preferences again and the "Always notify me..." is ON, and as I'm typing this reply right now two of the five boxes below this text input box are checked. They are the "Attach signature" box and the "Notify me when a reply is posted" box. As far as I can tell, these have always been checked. Let's see if I get a notification when someone replies after this..... _________________ Dave Peck |

Hi Jan.
Nope. Still no notification. And the options are still ON from where I see them.
I still receive other types of emails, like emails sent from the mailing list participants to the mailing list, but I noticed that I have not received any emails at all from the E-M site (no auto-notifications, not your email about the wire transfers, etc) since I got this one on January 21st:
"Congratulations,
You have been added to the "Europe 2007" group on electro-music.com.
This action was done by the group moderator or the site administrator,
contact them for more information.
You can view your groups information here:
http://electro-music.com/forum/groupcp.php?g=6632
--
Thanks,
the staff at electro-music.com"
Any chance that something else happened at that time that would prevent me from receiving emails from E-M? I checked my junk mail and they are not getting routed there. I'm just not getting them at all. _________________ Dave Peck |

Dave,
Seems to me you did all you could have done, including giving detailed information, thanks for that. Unfortunately I don't get it either. I went through the control panels that I have access to, but didn't see anything related. It seems like a bug to me in the forum software - unless it's some admin controlled feature that i don't know of. Sorry for the inconveniance. I sent Howard a PM and asked him to have a look at this. _________________ Jan

Hi Jan,
I'll wait a few days until maybe Howard has had a chance to look at it and I'll just keep checking the forum carefully until then. If there's no fix I'll try unsubscribing and resubscribing in a few days. Thanks! _________________ Dave Peck |

I don't know why there would be a problem, but I did just change the way email is sent. Maybe there has been a problem but nobody bothered to complain. Lets see if the change I just made fixes anything.
EDIT - Wait, I found a more serious problem. Working on it now... _________________ --Howard

In our house Lise and I can put a couple of people to sleep too, until we'll set off to Belgium. Due to our two years old son there are limitations about late night noises... I don't know about transport.

Hard to tell at this time ... I'll have a car, Rob has one, maybe Kees, Joker probably, but someone will have to drive a van or something as well.

This thread is getting hijacked, but...
I was posting and got a few email sending PHP errors. I made a small change to prevent that from happening. If this breaks something in the email notification, someone please let me know. _________________ --Howard

Hiya M-P,
Must be Karma. I responded to your post about the SQ-80 and you're offering crash space to weary travelers. I might want to take you up on your offer.
Peace ... RR _________________ I came for the patch library but stayed for the community. |
