Hi all,

This started as a bit of an experiment to see how many different sounds I could get by messin' with a single triangle wave. Quite a few, it turns out.

First the triangle is sent through a pair of shapers and a crossfader to gradually change between log & exp shapes. Then an LFO gets mixed with the wave for a slow pos-neg DC offset before sending it through a pair of wave wrappers and another crossfader. Normally, you can't 'hear' DC offset, but in this case the DC offset affects how the wrappers alter the waveform. Then a second pair of shapers to process the result of all this, and a compressor to smooth out the level.

All of the LFOs involved are running at different rates, so the result is a waveform that is constantly changing in several different ways at different rates. Note that some of the variations have the LFOs in mono mode (all voices change the same way at the same time) and other are in poly mode (different voices don't sound the same).

Another variation on this idea is to use a single EG instead of the LFOs for controlling all the sweeps, with a bunch of Pos/Neg switches to control the EG polarity at each mod input so you can have the wrappers sweep up while crossfader moves 1>2, or wrappers sweep down while crossfader moves 2>1, etc.

makes nice noises on a square wave...
i wonder how this patch would sound on the nm1... i guess the sound of the aliasing noises is the biggest difference..

That's a good idea dave, I too like to put some limits on my patches. Here is my noisy take on the simple triangle wave.

Check this out - replace that "A" osc with a "C" osc, which has hard sync and FM inputs. Set it to either SINE or TRIANGLE. Use the "A" osc as a sync master & FM source for the "C" osc only, not as a direct audio source. Try various waveforms. Now add a couple more UNIpolar triangle LFOs, one to sweep the pitch of the hardsync'd "C" osc, one to control a VCA that varies the amount of FM from "A" osc to "C" osc. Lots more cool sounds....
