I recently found this forum and now I have sooo many questions... woohooo.
Great place this is. Thumz up people!!!

I was wondering, got all those toy/kid/cheap keyboards that have midi in-s but can't select midi channel on them and they don''t have midi thru. so im thinking is it posible to build an interface that would take 16 chanel midi out from a computer and distribute it to 16 individual outs (16 connectors) and each one is seperate channel?

Sounds like doable to me. It will need a large amounts of uarts on the controller doing it though and that will cost something. And when two way communication is needed the controller needs to be able to perform pretty well.

Edit : so it might be cheaper to buy a somwhat biggish MIDI interface for the computer.

Yes, that might in fact be cheaper and far less messy.

Yes, far less. Got sidetracked by the fun factor of roling your own.

Yep, you can probably buy 2 8X8 midi interfaces for about $700 - less if you get them used.

You can buy an Opcode Studio 5LX 15x15 midi router that can do all that and much, much more for about $50 second hand.

I think it is. Unfortunately the company is out of business.

They were bought by Gibson.

Yes, it is (old) Mac only, but it runs stand-alone once configured. I bought an old Mac to go with it for 25 euros. So I now have a fully configurable 15x15 router/processor for about 75 euros (less than $100).

There's absolutely nothing that can beat it for flexibility.
