At Macworld New York, Apple Senior VP of Hardware Jon Rubinstein detailed why the clock speed of a computer isn’t an accurate way to compare system performance. Overall system design and processor-architecture differences affect real-world application performance, otherwise you might be fooled by what he terms “The Megahertz Myth“.

Is this a twisted version of "Size doesn´t matter"?

there is the "more than MHz" factor plus the "pipeline tax" etc.
I love these presentations Very Happy

It is true, the clock rate is not a measure of system performance. It is good as a simple metric for comparing performance within a given product architecture. For example, a 3 GHz P4 will probably be faster than a 2 GHz P4. Even in these narrow comparisons is not particularly meaningful. For exampe, a 2 GHz machine with lots of RAM, fast disks, and a good mother board chipset will out perform a 3 GHz with minimal memory and a slow disk.

Also, don't fall for all the BS from Apple either. My G4 867 MHz Power Book with 640 MB RAM and OSX 10.2.8 performs about the same as my 5 year old 250 Mhz 128 MB IBM Think Pad running Windows 98. What am I doing? Just opening programs, browsing the web and using the Clavia G2 editor.

try some processor-hungry application and, I guess, you'll see some difference Cool
