mathematical functions on your Nord Subject description: How to, please? |

Hey all,
Something I would like to look into is how to mimic mathemtical functiosn within the nord.
I realise it is quite simple to add, minus and subtract. i can even do divisions using integars etc (by using and Amplifier circuit set to less than 1.00)
But how do you go about performing trig style maths in there, Sin, Cos etc?
How do you divide one audio signal by another?
I presume it has something to do with the mixer modules and inversions but I am not sure.
Any clever folks out there willing to explain to novice?
I'm sure there are tons of mathematical equations n functions u can build in there, I could just do with a push in the right direction.

For division and square root :

Sine and cosine can be done at LFO rates by using the LfoShapeA module and at audio rates by using the PM oscillator as lookup tables (frequency must be set to zero, on the LfoShpA by making the dir input zero).
Multiplication with the LevMult module, and squaring is multiplication of x by x.
Getting an absolute value : the Rect module.
Hmm, what more ... exp and log I guess, that's a bit confusing for the mo. We have a LevScaler. _________________ Jan

n mod x (for positive n and x) can be done by S&H-ing n and as long as the S&H holds more then x, substracting x from the S&H, then resampling. If n is smaller then x you make a second S&H sample the first and use that as a output. That's basically using recursion but by deviding the Nord's headroom by x you know the maximum number of iterations and hence the maximum responce time of the cerquit. Note that you can modulate x but this will likely change the (maxiumum) responce time and if you do it while the whole thing is in mid-operation you'll get one faulty output so x will need to be sampled as well if that would be a issue.
Modulo is very usefull for alternative tunings, asuming the tuning uses a octave and all octave have the same tuning. Also quite usefull for turning the lookup sequencer into a more advanced sort of step sequencer.
Can be elaborated to also allow n and x to be negative but generally I never needed that myself. _________________ Kassen |
