Hey, does anyone know what the 'deep' setting on a G2 comb filter actually does?

I've got the Computer Music Tutorial, which explains how to make peak and notch comb filters, but I'd like to understand how Clavia combines them together somehow to make the 'deep' filter.

Just curious, that's all.

Hey Chet, how's it going old chum? I'm just guessing here, but I'm thinking it has some extra feedback or resonance circuit... more likely feedback than resonance. Then again, that's just a wild guess and you were probably after some more concrete answers. Confused

Hi and thanks, things are going well. I just returned from a vacation at the beach, so I'm feeling good. But it made me miss the electro-music festival for the second time in a row. Aarrgh!

I'm thinking that the 'deep' setting includes a combination of feedback and feed-forward signal paths, with some negation somewhere. But that describes an allpass filter. So I can't figure it out.

After some experimentation, it turned out to be simpler than I thought.

The 'notch' setting is a delay line whose output is mixed with the original signal.

The 'peak' setting is a delay where the output is looped back and mixed with the input.

The 'deep' setting is simply a circuit that includes both signal paths, with the gain of each linked together.

No, actually, they're ganged together. It was simpler than I thought it would be.

Attached is a patch that simulates (I think) the three comb filter types.

Thanks Chet,

yoyr patch gives some wonderful results using long (modulated)delay times !
