Yamaha CS-40M needs fix.

So I got this beauty here for not too much, because it's not functional... for now.

It blows one of the two internal 2.5 amp fuse, systematically, seconds after powering on. They're right beside the PSU.
I suspect (hope is a better word) it's simply the power supply that's going to hell. (btw: if anyone can confirm that, it will help me sleep till I find the cash to get it fixed!... if I can't fix it myself.).

So now I need the service manual containing schematics (not the Owner's Manual)... I spent quite a few hours combing through the net. No luck... well I found one place where they sell pdf's of it for 20$ US... I'm pretty certain it's available for free somewhere.

Anyone knows the secret hidden place where I can find that?

I think I did the right thing buying it.

I can't stop staring at it... it's so beautiful. Even more so now that I'm pretty sure it's only a power issue!

To be sure, disconnect the power supply from the rest of the circuits, and see if it still blows the fuses.

Hm... I'd rather leave this to a pro, give him money and get my synth back working.

That synth was sent to me by *insert synth god here*. I happen to loooove the Yamaha sound (the CS 80 being my dream synth)...I've been extremely lucky so far and I don't want to push my luck.

-edit- Wow Dave (checking out your site)... I you were my neighbor, it's definitely you I'd take my synth to!!! Do you think it's possible to modify it so that the Vco's can sync? It's one of the reasons why I want to get the schematics...

It shouldn't be to hard to build a circuit to sync the VCOs, if you get a hold of the schematics, send me a copy of the VCO schematic, and we'll look into it.
I used to have a few of the CS series synths, a CS15, CS40m and a CS60, the CS60 is the only one I wish I had never sold, the ring modulator on it was the best one I have ever used, and it had the best ribbon controller in the business, if you ever get a chance to buy one, BUY IT!, it gives you the same sound and features as the CS80, but without the overheating problems.

Yeah... I know the guy at Technopolis... Thing is he's there only two days per week or so. Very hard to get ahold of him or get something repaired within reasonable times.... and uh... damn he's pricey this guy!! He owns a Porsche, you know. Also I never saw this guy smile... even when I went in and spent 2000$. What am I saying here?!?... I'm a bit afraid of him. Very odd gut feeling. I think he's evil. Never mind. lol (ya readin' this Mart? Smiling is free!!)

I've spent more time trying to find schematics. Either I'm bad at finding stuff or it's really not there at all. Turns out I couldn't find any either for free or for sale (that other pdf selling site doesn't even have it). It does not appear like it's common practice to mod that synth.

Not a very popular synth, really. The owners seem to really love it though.

Will keep looking... there has to be a place but I don't know where to look now.

Oh and rest assured I will buy a CS-60 if I see one... I could do naaaasty things for one.

he lists the user and service manuals, I would assume the service manuals would have the schematics.
I have delt with Mark on numerous occasions, he only charges you what it costs him to photocopy the manuals, and postage.

It seems that all the CS series synths use the same VCO chip, you might want to check if any of the other CS synths have a VCO sync that you could adapt, or if someone else has done a sync mod on any of the other CS synths.
When I get some time, I'll check some of the sites I have bookmarked, and see if I can come up with something, and also see if I can find a data sheet for the IG00153 VCO chip.

Take your time. I'm first going to get the power issue out of the way... hopefully it's all that's wrong...

I should unpack for now (typing this from my new flat!! Yay!! It's a mess!!). I'm a bit sore... my records weigh at least three times as much as the rest of my stuff.
