Subject description: Slot changes via midi messages
Reply with quote  Mark this post and the followings unread

I have to play two phrases in quick succession in my left hand whilst playing tambourine with my right. I have no free time in between phrases to change slots.

I can't split the keyboard as the phrases are arranged in such a way that the split points won't fit into.

Has anyone had any success with changing slots via a midi message, e.g. a footpedal in order to achieve such a quick change in sound?

If so what type of message would I need and what channel/ctrl/number would I need? What would be the best way to set it all up?

Any thoughts?

Thanks guys

Tommy

welcome Tommy

I do not think it is possible to do slot changes over MIDI. I don't know if you have the ability to have both slots active, if so you you could change the master volume over MIDI to switch, but this costs voices of course.

I'm not aware of a midi CC for changing keyboard focus, but you could do something like this.

The output channel of the notezone is assigned a midi CC.

The example uses the wheel output of the device module because I don't have a foot pedal.
If you change before note off, you can get stuck notes.

Wouldn't the easiest way be to play both slots all the time, and change the volume on the slots (crossfade in an FX part) with the foot controller? Either you can set both slots to listen to the same channel (if possible - can't check now), or have slot A send MIDI notes to slot B, or have the MIDI keyboard send to two MIDI channels (if possible).

If you don't want to change the volume, you can have a track-and-hold module (that triggers from the foot controller) between the note and gate inputs and the oscillators and envelopes etc.

/Stefan

Changing the volume will work fine, except where sound A has a longish release time/delay or reverb tail.

I wonder if you could setup a note detect module so that the slots could switch automatically after you play a certain note? Save using a pedal.
