Too bad about the iPod not playing ogg files.

I think they sound much better than mp3 at the same bitrates.

Cyx, how do you think they sound, from your experiment?

Ogg on OS X is no problem at all. The only issue here is the iPod.

I rendered one at 350k, and it was very nice for the filesize, but at that resolution, it would even sound decent on MP3. I'll play with the lower bitrate tonite perhaps. My initial impression is solid. I'll probably use it more, especially if an update to itunes includes support for it.

Nice to see so much talk about mastering. I master quite a bit for outside clients, and most of the time, they want their music LOUD, just like all of the other CDs that they buy. Even if they are losing dynamic range and stereo image and everything else. They only accept LOUD like other music. I find this in pop, rap, hip-hop, and even smooth jazz. Yes even smooth jazz.

Now, rather than bitch about it, I realize that my job when mastering is to make my paying clients happy. LOUD makes them happy. Simple as that.

Something else to consider: do you know that some people think that "mp3" is better quality than "CD"? Those are "some people" who purchase music (or illegally download) it. Strange.

There is an old joke among band musicians. "If you don't like our music, we'll play it louder."
