Here's a new toy synth |
|
|
I was driving down the road one day and I found this sitting on top of someones garbage....SSSCCCRRREEEEEEETTTCCH...I put on the brakes and scooped it up. It's a Radio Shack Concertmate 380 that uses digital pulse code modulation to make its' sounds. 4 small sound banks that have 5 sounds each including a passable acoustic piano sound, a few usable synth sounds, some percussion patterns and 3 effect layers that can be glopped on. It can run on 4 AA batteries or a 7 volt AC adapter, has a built in speaker and even has a 1/8" audio out. It's in fine shape and the mini keyboard actually plays great. I'll probably sample it. I'd say it's a pretty cool find.

Way cool. Those toy things tend to make up for small speakers by using bass-heavy samples that pack quite a punch when used on more serious speakers.
Congrats on your find!
On the topic of toy instruments; a few days ago I scooped up a second PlayStation1 Beatmania controler. those rock with a ps => USB converter. 15 Euro-bucks more expensive then your free one (new) but I find the half-octave keybaord+ scratchpad irresistible. _________________ Kassen |

I was just thinking that same thought.
Las time I went junk-hunting I had to settle for some old wooden salad bowls. They make for nice percussion tho.
Sweet Find on the RS synth, btw! _________________ - Collin Mel |

Well for some reason I can find all kinds of useful items in these parts. I've found 2 working computer monitors plus this concertmate literally by the side of the road. _________________ Apple Mac Pro 3.1 2.88 GHz. Intel Xeon Quad

I have this Yamaha PSS-470 that people talk about circuit bending in the forum. I got it at a yard sale for $7. The best feature is, of course, the "Digital Synthesizer" with the Wave, Spectrum, Modulation, Attack, and Decay sliders.
