Lower G# does not respond |

NMG2, OS v1.40, editor v1.40, windows XP.
One key does not work properly. It doesn't trigger a note or MIDI out at all or it does with very low velocity - almost inaudible - and it gets hung there, no way to stop the note sounding.
I would think that might be a cleaning issue, despite the synth is just two months old. But then, the first time you press that key after power-up, it works. None of the subsequent presses does. When you turn the power off and on again, it works. One more press and it doesn't. That leads me to think that this is probably a software issue. I've downloaded again the OS and replaced it. It has not worked.
I'm pissed off. Has anybody experienced such behaviours? Thank you. |

It's probably not software, most likely something stuck in there. If the synth is under warranty and you have access to someplace handy to actually return it to, do that. If not, and you feel like taking it apart, it's easily done, although there are lots of screws.
Mine arrived damaged (it was used, and thanks alot U.S. Post), but I managed to remove the keyboard, drill and tap a few broken pieces of the keybed and put it all back together.
I realize this is not very specific advice, I just wanted to let you know that taking the G2 (mine is a G2X) apart is not insurmountable. If you're located in southern Ontario, Canada, let me know and I'll give you a hand.

What puzzles me is that the key does work the very first time you press it after power-up. It's like it was unable to produce any "note off" events. |

Never seen this reported before. Quite strange.
The fact that fault is fixed by power cycling would seem to eliminate a mechanical problem. Nor does it sound like a software problem. It may be a fault on the main board (blown support chip or bad connection). |

If the key doesn't produce any note-offs, then it's definetely a mechanical problem. Velocity-sensitive keyboards have two static metal tongues under each key which make contact with a moving tongue inside the key, one at key press and one at key release. The time lag between these contacts are measured by a microprocessor and produce the velocity (or release velocity) information.
If the "press" tongue is warped, the key no longe produces note-ons, or it does but with wrong velocity response. If "release" tongue is warped, the key doesn't produce any note-offs, or again, with incorrect release velocity response. |

I had some keyboard problems with the NM Classic, these had a mechanical cause and the same effects sometimes re. power up and working once and not thereafter. Apparently the key release is not coming through properly. I had to replace the keyboard to solve it (tried cleaning but that didn't work very well), you should contact Clavia about this - you still have warranty I guess.
I'll move this out of the bugs section as this very likely is not a bug - not meaning it's not annoying of course. _________________ Jan

Audible, where did you get your G2? Are you living in Barcelona?
I had EXACTLY the same problem with a G2 I bought in DMC last October. I bought it new (more than 2000€ with the expansion) but they sent me an used G2 with the problem you described. After months of complaints I finally got it replaced last April by a NEW, unopened box G2.
Maybe you have been cheated! _________________ Cheers,

It had no plastics over the screens, the box was previously opened and the keys showed usage. A new keyboard has no marks at all, but when you start using it you create very slight marks with the nails. _________________ Cheers,
