1. does the waldorf xt process audio in - in stereo?
2. can the waldorf xt send midi thru to its midi out?
3. do you like the xt with the cylindrical knobs or the ones that are thinner? I used to have an mwaveII and loved those cylindrical knobs ... are there any differences in features/capabilities between this (phat knobs) h/w version and the ones that followed?
lemme know

IIRC, the so-called stereo in on an XT is in reality a stereo-summed-to-mono input. |

According to the manual, the XT has only a single external input jack (p. 8 ). The block diagram (p. 38 ) shows it as a mono signal entering the pre filter mixer. The MIDI thru is hardwired only; there's no soft thru on the output jack. The difference in the knobs is just in the knobs AFAIK.

Maybe I'm mistaken with my MW-PC module version, in which a stereo (digital) line in is summed to mono in the module. But mono it is in all cases. |

Thanks foor the info folks! I'm thinking SERIOUSLY about having a MWaveXT (I miss my old MWave2, but not its 4 knobs).

I use it in combination with a DMX 6FireLT soundcard (PCI instead of the original EWS64 ISA card), and it works quite well under XP. Only downside is is that under win98 and the EWS soundcard, there was a util that made the module output sysex data (it does not do that by default, it only receives communication incl sysex), therefore it could be used with a computer editor just as a HW MWXT. Sadly, this app does not work under XP or under Win98 with the DMX card.
However, apart from making new wavetables, all edit functions can be used normally under XP with the Terratec editor (same functionality as the HW knobs). |

Now, I had a chance to experience both the cylindrical knobs on an xt (rather painful chance due to a bad ebay experience where the xt was not an orange, but a lemon ) and the thinner knobs on my xt (the one I ended up getting locally).
the perfectly cylindrical ones have a disadvantage if your hands are bigger than those of a child. Simply put, it is hard to grip a fat knob when your finger also rubs against the adjacent knob(s).
Just my humble opinion.
