Unplugging whilst being plugged? |
|
|
A composer-friend of mine asks me to plug and unplug the audio cables while the G2 and the audio system are still on. Guess, everyone has done so _once_ and then avoided doing it another time.

Not if he pays for the speakers
It depends a bit on at what volume setting you do this, wouldn't do it at full volume I guess. _________________ Jan

I wouldn't say it is dangerous but maybe it is not the smartest thing to do _________________ homepage - blog - forum - youtube

I hate doing it. I'm getting paid doing these things though
But I don't want to do it if something gets broken, since I'd have to pay the organizers back and not the composer. No, that's not the reason: I simply hate breaking things. _________________ Fish don't swim. They dive. |

Probably not on living room speakers as modest volumes but DON'T EVER do this on a big PA. It's a bad habit; first pull the fader down, then connect. Gesture to the house engineer before switching the stage mixer off/unpluging it, the same holds true for pluging in.
If there's no fader inbetween for some odd reason the only proper thing to do is to turn the whole amp down all the way. _________________ Kassen |

In the past, before I turn off my NM1 or G2 engine, I would turn the output of my mixer all the way down, as well as the volume on the NM1.
Most of the time, I would still hear the transient but it is very low volume.
Not enough to launch any speaker cones across the room.
I am still surprised that I hear anything with the output (NM1) turned all the way down).
So I got into the habit of turning the output of the mixer down, then turning the mixer off, then turning off the gear. |

Ah, what an interesting thread this has become. Or a threat?
Thanks a lot for the patch, that is so kind. Unfortunately I won't be able to use it. There are several sounds I make that sound like faultiness(?) in the PA system, like little knacks or power shortages, but here it's the aspect of manually plugging something out and back in. The theatrical aspect. Now how do we patch that??
Maybe I can fake it by plugging the MIDI-cable in and out and trigger the patch with just another footpedal. That's the high art of acting. Slapping someone's face and stomping with the foot.
Back to the question:
Is it dangerous? Does it break something? Or is it just VERY annoying and loud? _________________ Fish don't swim. They dive. |

You're more than up to *that* task But it's OK, I made the patch for fun of course, and I still had that.

So why does the Edit button prompt 'Edit/Delete this post'?
Wout
PS It worked before the crash, I'm sure...
And there is a 'X' button! |
