8038 VCO PCB layout for press'n'peel blue Subject description: NEW VERSION |
|
|
hi all,
i etched a PCB for a dual version utilizing a THAT320 (manually matched transistors could be used, too),
this layout is mede according to my very own needs (panelmount using cliff sockets, 20mm grid).
if there would be enough interest i designed a common version following the dlabeling in the VCO cookbook and uploaded it to my site... _________________

It would be nice !!!
I'm going to build the XR VCO first, but I want to try this one in the future.
Thank you. _________________ Sebo

Just made a board from your Lo Pass gate pnp fonik. brd turned out great. I am waiting on an order of Cliff sockets so I can build it. Thanx.
That said... I have am 8038 chip, I like your layouts, so I would be interested.
thanx again,
Tony |

the layout i have done follows a 20mm grid for the cliff sockets (i created my own standard here ). i will have to relabel all components according to the TH VCO chip cookbook so one could build it. when achieved this, i could redesign the layout without these cliff socket footprints.
said that, i think i will do it.
i won't publish any schematic since it is easily available from sMs (and recognize the current september back to school sale). _________________

i recently built ken stones Synthacon filter, the verision designed to go behind a euroracak panel (tho i did mine in frac). it's laid out to use pcb mounted jacks, but since i'm unable to get them here in the states, i just used regular jacks wired with extremely short (like, clippings from resistor leads short) stubs. they were quite sturdy enough to support the PCB.
which is just to say, if you make a layout for pcb-mounted jacks, you can probably use it for panel-mount jacks with no modifications...

here is a pic of the populated PCB waiting for the frontpanel. i decided to have a breakout PCB for the 2nd VCOs sockets.

here we go. i added the press'n'peel blue layout to my site without schematic, but providing a "conversion table" to show the corresponding parts labels from the TH VCO chip cook book.
for now you'll find the layout for my version utilizing cliff sockets. a common version will follow.
i finished the VCOs yesterday and it sounds quite nice (a little bit aggressive IMO). the tracking is okay at the first glance (min 5 oct). i recognized a little bit cross-talk, not quite sure about the cause (shared opa packages?). and due to it's wide range yo can use it as LFO, too.

Great project Fonik! Thanks for making your artwork available
EDIT: Already found some 8038 chips! Thanks Level5 for informing about a source for these at a decent price. Last edited by softfin on Mon Sep 24, 2007 8:05 am; edited 1 time in total |

Reichelt is too expensive (11,45 Euro).
You can order them from www.bastler-shop.de (6,54 Euro) |

i played a little bit with this dual VCO and the cross-talk is not only a cross-talk of audio. even the CVs influence each other.
i omitted decoupling caps in this design. perhaps this might cause the problems? maybe one of the real experts could chime in? _________________

Dood! Thats pretty lame. I tried to order a few of these from, electronicsurplus.com and something was wrong with their website, and I could not place an order online, so I tried calling them during business hours and they would not answer the phone! So I was unable to place an order with them. Now there are only a few left and they cost almost five times more! Sheesh. _________________ Check out my music |
