Unitor8 firmware files Subject description: cannot cascade 2 units via the RS422 cable |
|
|
I've got 2 Unitor8 MKII that differ for firmware.
I connect them to a iMac G5 via USB alternatively.
One says (in Unitor8 Control) fw 2.0.2 , the other 2.0.4
As I cannot cascade the 2 units via the RS422 cable, I thought it might have been a firmware problem...
Any of you knows where to find a firmware .mid file?
Thanks in advance |

http://www.apple.com/support/emagic/
I dunno if the firmware is there.. but this is the official spot for all things Emagic. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

...and if it wasn't a firmware problem, then what else?
a broken RS422 cable?
How can I test it?
I'm not too familiar with Macs, I've always used PCs.
I know RS422 cable is also known as "LocalTalk Printer Cable" and is rather difficult to find these days.
I could not find one in Milano, so I bought one from USA !
It fits in the unit and has the right number of pins, but I'm not sure it works. As you probably know, iMacs are not equipped with RS422 port.
Did anybody of you encountered the same problem?
...
I forgot to say that the 2 units work flawlessly.
It's just that I cannot cascade them.

Thank you elektro80 for the fastest response I've ever received!
I knew that place, but sadly they don't have firmware files.
As the manual reads.. "You can recognize Unitor8 update files (firmware actually ndr) by their filename Unitor8 Update x.x.x.mid, with x.x.x standing for the version number."
So something like "Unitor8 Update 2.0.4.mid".
I guess they are simple sysex, but unfortunately there is no send dump feature in Unitor8.
There is a further step I could take, that is a complete re-initialization of both units EPROMs.
This would erase any firmware update, but I don't like this option.
Anyway thank you again.
Cheers. |

ftp://ftp.apple.com
There is an Emagic directory in root
In there? Possible bundled with something else?
I think we have some Unitor owners here. Give them guys some time in order to discover your post? _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

... and YES, it was a broken RS422 cable !
It took a tremendous amount of time to find out... I couldn't believe... not too good wishes go to eBay seller I bought it from...
Anyway, I'm now a happy administrator of a 256 addressable midi channels system.
