Impossible due to differences in the data! Discovery also has its FX in the Sysex, so the NL can't use this.

I don't have the Discovery Sysex format, so I can't find out what data has to be removed.

woulda though the sysex chart betwen the two would be identical, except for the extra's discovery has that the nord lead 2 doesnt ie, the effects would be assigned to controls that the nord probably wont even pay attention too?

eiether way could be interesting to feed a few discovery patches into my nord was my line of thinking

also i quiet like discovery, particuarly whilst on the road and working away from my gear

it'd be good to use the discovery as a temporary fix to not having the nord next to me, when i get back into town just transfer the sysex to my nord and be off using the hardware equivelent Smile

in a perfect world I guess! Smile

cheers

The two use in a way the same Sysex, so...

I'll send you a NL Patch (Program) which you load in your Discovery. You make a setting for the FX (we can talk about which settings and how) and we can compare the two Sysex files.

Then a tool can be made in which the Discovery dat which the NL doesn't use can be cut away and it should work, doesn't it?

Let's give it a try...

the way you have described it is exactly how i thought it would work in my head, unfortunately I am no programmer

However , I can take your patch as you say , tweak 'just' the effects, and other extras in Discovery that are not on a NL2 and re-send back to you

i just found this: http://www.kvraudio.com/i/m/421.jpg

sorta makes it easier than looking at a CC chart

After looking at the description of DiscoveryDSP, it may have an architecture
that is different from the NL, and as such, it's patch format is not compatible, even without it's FX.

synth. Discovery PRO features 12 oscillators four layers deep, four Moog-modeled filters, and the ability to import both Nord Lead 2 and Nord Lead 2X patches. Featuring two new oscillators, a new graphical modulation feature and hundreds of new patches, Discovery PRO is a must-have in your synth collection.

Do you have any documentation for Discovery DSP?
Is the patch format described in there?

Until now I've found in the Manual, although I think it will be not the information you'll need.

Manual Discovery Pro wrote:
Importing SysEx
Discovery can import sysex patch dumps from using software able to record MIDI sysex data dumps.

A recommended tool for this purpose is MIDI-OX - http://www.midiox.com/.

1. Using MIDI-OX menu bar: View > SysEx.
2. SysEx window appears, then: SysEx > Receive Manual Dump
3. A small window labeled 'SysEx Receive' will appear.
4. On NordLead2, select Shift+Dump One or Shift+Dump All. It will start the dump of current
patch or entire 40 patches of RAM sound bank.
5. Once finished, press done.
6. On MIDIOX SysEx view the menu again, go to 'Display Window' and select 'Save As.'
7. Select and save your file with .syx extension.
8. On Discovery GUI, press Edit button > Import.... A popup menu appears, then press Import NL2 patch dump, and select your .syx or .ngf file (Both are MIDI unformatted Sysex
data dump).

NOTES:
● Full bank patch dumps will be done into current selected layer.
● This is a not reversed engineered Nord Lead 2, so it will sound different.
● Performance and Percussion Kits dumps are not supported.

Unfortunately, this only talks about importing the patches.

I've downloaded a manual but it is not very informative. It has no information about saving the patches nor their format.
The author said saving the patches is done by the VST host and that Steinberg shoul dhave this information, since recent versions of Cubase now use the FBX format.

The author did say that the patches are NOT saved in sysex format.
