May i add Jayne Casey of Pink military/industry to this list?
active in the UK in late 70's early 80s.
none of her stuff seems to have made it to cd, but some kind souls posted all the LPs for download -
http://www.cromar.org/pm_pinkdownloads.htm
i guess the sound is a bit 80's, but good songs are good songs.
Do Animals Believe in God? has been in my collection for 25 years and still gets a regular spin. |

...those two are very related. i can recall in 1980 or so (being 11 i think), that it was a common saying that the "adidas" on the shoe stood for "all day i dream about sex"....i don't know much about korn, but i think they postdate this.

Can't believe someone else likes Pink Military. But I wouldn't call her electro, far more punk. All the electronic stuff was done by other members of the band. The Pink Industry dudes each released solo material, mostly on cassette, which is now so rare as to be... rare. I remember seeing a Tadzio tape but never bought it.
Anyway, let me second Derbyshire and add Mira Calix. |

Ha yes they pooped on most of the early 80s brit bands...IMHO!
I think the pink industry stuff has a lot of Jayne on the synths, at least I read that in an interview.
All their stuff is available for free download, including the entire Do Animals... album. |

I wasn't at electro the year she was, but I saw her at a TIMARA alumni thing at Oberlin and was really impressed by the awesomeness she can achieve with such a simple setup. I love stuff that combines organically generated sounds (voice, electro-acoustic instruments, pots and pans, etc.) with electronic manipulation for that other-worldly effect. Her lyrics really do it for me too, which I find unusual in electro genres (people tend to get carried away with swirly boo-wee noises and forget verbiage). Also I thought the pink drumsticks were a nice touch. |

Yes, thats the one. Her vocals are incredible and uses them to great effect along side the sampler. Very inspiring. Do you have any other material from her? If so, is it of the same caliber as this release? I can't imagine any other material she has released being bad actually.
