Cwejman Adsr-VC2 Question Subject description: Sustain Level is strange |
|
|
i just got that modul - while testing i noticed the strange behaviour of the sustain Knob - the Adsr patched to the VCA-4Mx makes the signal not audible before value 5 or 6 - wich is stupid
so i found on back of the module two control-pots labeled sustain1 & 2 - they are not mentioned in the manual - so what are they exactly for? |

Does that happen with both envelopes? |

yes
to avoid misunderstandings, here's what i'm doing:
i'm holding a gate that triggers the Adsr - so i should a continious sound - changing the sustain level makes my signal louder or quiter
when i turn the sustain from 0 to 10 the audio signal doesn't get audible before 5 (maybe a tiny, tiny bit) - when i do the same with the Cwejman S1 Adsr - i hear the signal from 1 on |

Max envelope output and sustain level of ADSR-VC2 is 8V. (This can be switched to 5V, if desired). Sustain knob setting 5 (at twelve o'clock) gives 1.2V output here. Thus, the knob response is non-linear. I think this is desirable at some situations.
VCA-4MX has semi-logarithmic response, which makes it somewhat "ergonomically incompatible" with the non-linear sustain knob of ADSR-VC2. If I use my VCA-2P at logarithmic response setting together with ADSR-VC2, I get same results you described.
BTW, I have just ordered a VCA-4MX.
Best regards

I just got my VCA-4MX.
Within some tolerances VCA-4MX has the same response curve as VCA-2P at logarithmic setting - This is, if the upper CV inputs (labeled "amount") of VCA-2P are used. Previously I have used primarily the lower CV inputs ("Left" or "Right"), which give slightly different response.
So, VCA-2P can have "semi-logarithmic response" too.
VCA-4MX has 4 knobs and 16 jacks in 10 HP space. That must be a new record. There is a tiny bit of unused space. I could use a log/lin switch there...
Best regards
