Here is the reference of the original AC 110v:
Pri: 120 VAC 60 Hz 0.48 A
Sec: 12 VAC 40 VA
Here is what's written back of the Wretch s1000:
12 volts AC ONLY
Power consumption 3.0 amps at 12 Vac...
It doesn't make sens to me, so i ask some help!!!! |

Ah OK, just find an AC supply (wall wart) rated at 220 or 230 V with the same output specs (12 V / 40 VA, or 12 V / 3 A). If you have a local electronics store they'll be able to help you if you show 'm the metasonix and the numbers you posted here. When you want to find one on the internet it can be a bit hard to see if the 12 V plug will fit the Wretch. _________________ Jan

Actually, to clear this up, I had a topic here on Metasonix which is what SallyJack found via Google. After some PMs, we've settled on the power supply I used, which is a Block HIT-60, primary 220-240VAC, secondary 11.5-12VAC, 60VA. A bit overrated but that's good in this case.
Coincidentally, Sally's Wretch SN is 00025. Mine is 00024. It's a small world here.
SallyJack's power supply that blew is exactly the same one I had, which is still on my desk, melted as a memento to Americans not understanding power in Europe. This from an American in Europe, so I feel qualified to comment.
For the record, my post in this forum about my power supply problems with my then-new Wretch was my first post on electro-music.com. _________________ Garret: It's so retro.

en peu. Seulement en peu, s'il vous plait.
A very many of us are very bad at French, and bad English is still better than bad French. _________________ Garret: It's so retro.

Which reminds me .. when I was a kid on holiday in a french speaking part of europe ... my mother had explained with hands and feet that she couldn't speak french, and then the man said : c'est dommage, pour moi et pour vous - we got that _________________ Jan

That one should be fine.
But you'll have to do some wiring yourself _________________ Jan

sallyjackmei :
I'm sorry your USA power adapter melted. It's a real danger buying them from our US dealers or on the used market. Most adapters sold in the US won't work properly on 50Hz mains--they get very hot. And there's no way to tell if a given transformer will work on 50 hz or not.
I have added some suggestions for power supplies for our products if used in Europe, to our website:
http://metasonix.com/forums.html?option=com_content&task=view&id=22&Itemid=39
The transformers intended for powering 12v halogen lighting (like the one whose photo you posted above) ARE OK to use with our products. You need to take the cable off the USA adapter and attach it to the transformer's secondary or output terminals. |

I'd like to add that Conrad Electronics does have international webpages. I was slogging through the German page and when I entered my ship-to address, it asked me to order from the French page instead. Way cooler (for me as I read French far better than Deutsch!) & the price for the transformer was much cheaper as well. Rockin!
It is probably easiest to start here: http://www.conrad.com/ |
