Hot on the heels of the outrageously successful Hands Off 2007, it seems that our American cousins want some of the action...

Moog Music should take some hints from successful festivals such as electro-music.

electro-music:

1) encourages community
2) offers opportunities for participants to present musical performances, lectures, and jam sessions
3) values everyone's contribution
4) is a bargain price
5) grows every year

Etherfest

1) encourages competition (note: a "composition contest")
2) offers nothing to participants other than to sit in the audience.
3) treats only the headliners with respect, offers a karaoke hour to everyone else.
4) costs four to six times as much as electro-music
5) was cancelled in 2006 due to lack of registrants and skipped in 2007

To Howard, Greg, and everyone involved with electro-music: Keep up the great work! Smile

Thanks. I marked my calendar for the Ether Wave 2008 dates since that's just a 2 hr drive from here. I may go to the concerts if they are not too expensive. I don't play theremin, it's on my to-do list, after "build theremin from scratch, no kits", so I may never get to that item.

In 2006, the registration fee was $250 per person.

Pamelia Kurstin is making a fall USA tour and she plans to tour a wider area next spring. As I did last spring, I will catch Pamelia's set when she plays in Kansas City for a $5 cover charge per person. You might want to check Pamelia's myspace page to keep track of her concert schedule.

To see Pamelia perform is worth a two hour drive however I would have a hard time to justify a $250 fee when I can see her elsewhere for a nominal cover charge. If you can catch her at a club somewhere you'd have enough money left over to build an awesome theremin. Smile
