Emptiness Subject description: From Ecclesiastes |
|
|
This music was inspired by a G2 patch by Ian Sayer posted here: http://electro-music.com/forum/topic-14978.html
I added a vocal track. The words are from The Way of Solomon, by Rami Shapiro. This is a profound new interpretation of The Book of Ecclesiastes.
Emptiness! Emptiness upon emptiness!
The world is fleeting of form,
empty of permanence,
void of surety,
without certainty.
Like a breath breathed once and gone,
all things rise and fall.
Understand emptiness, and tranquility replaces anxiety.
Understand emptiness, and compassion replaces jealousy.
Understand emptiness, and you will cease to excuse suffering and begin to alleviate it.
This is a rough sketch. But like most of my work, that's often all there is.

I especially like the ornamentation used with the vocal--very effective. I do find it a bit 'rough' in a couple of dimensions. Perhaps less emptiness and a bit more obsessiveness might prompt you to refine it. Without the vocal, this music would be a nice and tranquil. The vocoded vocal -- played without vibrato -- adds both drama and expression to the music.
Great work from everyone involved with this track. |
