Here's my preliminary panel design.

I'm adding a few customisations:

I will be implementing the manual (variable) range option however I would like to be able to select the maximum voltage as 1, 2, 4 or 8V. This can be done really easily with a dual gang rotary switch but am having difficulty finding ones that won't cost cost me a kidney (anybody know a good reasonably priced source for such items - rotary switches that is, not kidneys)

Saaaweeet!

For me, that's the ultimate switch. C&K 7211s, are actually DPDT ON-ON-ON switches. Arguably one of the most versatile toggle switches in the world.

Gate Bus 2 could have been made a physical rather than a logical gate bus using these. I avoided that, because new ones ain't inexpensive.

The C&K 9000 series (and probably others) have actuators that might make a suitable substitute. Have a look at the L41 or L42 actuators outlined on page G-7 of the following catalogue http://www.ck-components.com/media/pdf/catalogs/Toggle_Switches/7000toggle_19nov.pdf

Are those labels across the sliders related to specific output values? ie- notes, etc?

I just put heavier lines at the 1/2 and 1/4 travel points, and slightly lighter lines at the 1/3 and 1/6 travel points. I thought that they might be handy and yet unspecific reference points. For example, when you want to quickly set No.14 to the same value as No.3.
As it turned out, when I did the Lazertran and saw the result on the panel, I thought that it just looked really good, and was typical of the kind of graphics you get behind a series of controls like that on commercial equipment. It will look even better when I finally track down some knobs for my sliders. Rolling Eyes

BTW The actual voltage level (and therefore note value) changes depending on where I have the Max Voltage set. So it really is just a way of dividing up the travel.

krunkus, i really like how you used a sub-panel to mount your sliders. and that woodgrain really looks hot too.

do you mind posting your photos of the subpanel again? id like to see how you mounted it to the frontpanel and the distance between the two, etc.

Once they are all mounted, the extra holes have the toggle switches go through them, which holds it in place. Note:- make the holes for the toggle switches on the sub panel .5mm bigger than they "need" to be. This will cover the mis-alignment issue, which is a guaranteed certainty across 32 holes. Laughing
