I am very much in need of joystick controller, ideally for quadrophonic panning, as well as 4 channel mixing possibilites.

Before you mention the Trogotronic Iron Cross, I will point out that it makes me drool, and given no other options I will likely get one and try to reverse engineer it alien UFO style.

I have seen some Polyfusion schematics around in the past, but never one for the sound around. Plenty of joysticks are at the ready.

Thanks to all.

This is completely off the top of my head, as the joystick module I made a while ago is in cold storage (and I probably haven't thought it through) but... have a look at Ken Stone's joystick controller. If it was set up to give -5/+5 volts per axis, and there were two outputs per axis (physically two sets of circuits) then invert the -5 volts on both axes. This would give zero to +5 volts in four directions on four outputs... how useful is that? With four VCA's, it could be used for the mixer idea you talked about. I know nothing about quadraphonics ( I can barely spell it) but it's a start...

It's fairly obvious I haven't thought this through, but I'll drag my joystick module out tonight and have a look.

If anyone thinks I'm talking through my hat, feel free to step in...

Before you mention the Trogotronic Iron Cross,

isn't that just for switching? anyway, if you have some analog joysticks, it's not too difficult to make what you are after. you have 4 vcas? you can use just one joystick for quadraphonic panning with some other circuitry (like the sound-a-round?) or/and you can automate it with a quadrature LFO.

i guess ken stone's cct. is a good place to look- if i recall it right, i think there is a schematic for the wiard controller on grant richter's site and it is as simple as it gets.

i built one of my own a while back and plan to build more (someday) as it is super useful and fun to play with.

For a quite different joystick controller idea that I haven't seen done anywhere before, head over to the Design section of my webpage:

http://deathlehem.com/wsb4569662402/design.html

Go all the way down to the bottom of the page. That's where I start babbling about my Quadraxii P.R.O.B.E. Wink A 4 axis joystick controller, with 1 hand. Wink

(1 joystick's stem, is mounted directly to the end of another joystick. 1 is mounted in the panel, and the other 1 is up in the air.)

The schematic of V1.00 is up there as well. And SOMEwhere on one of my 2 main webpages, is a video of it in operation. Too tired at the moment though, to remember where. Sorry about that. Sad

All of the build details are there though. Smile
