GPS would be great, but at least here on phones you have to subscribe to some service. I don't need it all the time so that extra fee isn't too attractive. You can use Google Maps on the iPhone - it works very well.

The iPhone will work in Europe, but the AT&T rates are very high. I could use my old phone when I'm there with a locally purchased SIM or something.

I think the browsing works very well. I would use it mainly for checking on this site when I'm away from home, keeping up with email reading, and listening to mp3s. The fact that it is an iPod is nice.

If you don't need the phone part so much, what about the iPod Touch?

About the AT&T prices, I mean when you are travelling from the US to Euorpe. Now that it's 2008, it's almost February and the new SDK should be available. Then the real fun will begin.
