I submitted a draft to NIME06 in New York that was rejected, of a paper that later became my accepted DAFX06 paper. It's just as well it was rejected, because I wound up performing and presenting this talk at electro-music 2006 at the same time as NIME06. Cheltenham was a riot.
If I had a few back-burner projects a little further along, I'd consider submitting something to this one, mostly for an excuse to travel to Italy
An even better musical fit (that I should post here as well) is ICMC 2008. From the call for papers:
| Quote: | | The theme for 2008 is `Roots/Routes´. The Conference explores notions of placement and displacement in the context of music practice. It provides an opportunity for the investigation of the interface between technologies which develop through international collaboration and the specificity of music cultures rooted in a place. |
Man, could I have some fun with processed Appalachian folk music within the context of that theme
Either trip would probably have to come out of my pocket, and the logistics of seeing one of my banjos disappear into the cargo hold of a plane is always daunting. I'm still thinking about ICMC, though. _________________ "Time is a ruler across the knuckles of eternity."

That was one advantage of DAFX06 being in Montreal, I could drive the banjo:
