Command Prompt, ChucK and Sound |
 |
|
Is it possible to get sound out of ChucK/Command Prompt without having the Command Prompt as the activated window (I think thats the correct term)?
I've noticed that ChucK very kindly records perfectly even when the Command Prompt it is running on; is not in the foreground, but I can't work out how to get sound to play back?
Am I doomed to dos based deafness?

This is odd. ChucK should work fine when not highlighted. Likely it's a problem with your system's configuration but I have no idea where to start... _________________ Modern technology offers an endless field day to any deviant strains in our personalities. --J.G.Ballard |

Yup, you're right there. I've found out it happens when im running Logic side by side with ChucK.
Does anyone have any good suggestions for v.simple, easy to use MIDI software that can do sequencing (for windows)?
Thanks again,

Do you like trackers? I think the demo version of Renoise does MIDI and that's a good deal for the money (free as in beer). _________________ Modern technology offers an endless field day to any deviant strains in our personalities. --J.G.Ballard |

probably there's a similar setting as in cubase where you can deactivate the sound when the application is in background?
just an idea...

Changing the sound drivers in Logic helped. If I turned them off then ChucK would happily play in the background, leaving me to go mad in Logic's MIDI sequencer with no problems.
Renoise looks mighty complicated by the way, so I've decided to download the beginner video tutorials and see how I fare after that!
Thanks for your help once again guys,

Renoise is a specialists tool, yes .
Some of my friends are very happy about it and I liked it well enough when I tried it. I mentioned it becase it's all numbers and so very precise. It's also all keyboard controlled so those aspects could make it a good match for ChucK for some.
If you want coloured blocks and clicking then Logic is clearly much better and you should stick to it.
Still, it's nice to be able to use a tracker at times, for one thing you can steal lots of ideas about how to work with samples from trackers _________________ Modern technology offers an endless field day to any deviant strains in our personalities. --J.G.Ballard |

| It's a shame buzz midi out is such a bitch to get working cos that tracker really is free. (Also better imo but we won't go there). |

Nah, you can go there, I'd like to hear about it. Didn't keep up to date with Buzz after trying it some years back. I liked the concept a lot but remember it was hard for me to "get it" in practice. _________________ Modern technology offers an endless field day to any deviant strains in our personalities. --J.G.Ballard |
