If you've got windows 2000 or older (i don't know about XP, I don't have it) then go to "search". Look for a file called user.dmp (it is a wave file).

Drop it into a good wave editor like "cool edit." Before you listen to it, beware-most of the sounds will be just static noise that will hurt your ears. Look for the non-distorted sections of the wave, and you might find strangely disfigured and compressed portions of old music that you have made. I found some most excellent drum samples in mine. You might even find a little piece of a lost work!
