Well, here goes. Smile
It's been a long time since I shared any tracks, and here's one I wrote and recorded a few years ago. I decided I should have a go at mixing it down, and see if I can get inspired to do some more writing.
It's called Forbidden Planet, a working title that stuck really. I've got some vocals for it as well, but they aren't quite up to scratch. Embarassed
Because of the way my setup is at the moment, I'm not sure about the mix. Feel free to tell me if something's too loud/soft, in fact any constructive critisism at all would be welcome.
Sorry about the size of the file, I'm making up for a quiet patch. Laughing

Very nice track! I like the evolution of it very much. I think that the drum and bass tracks overshadow the two lead tracks a bit much. Bringing up the arpegiated lead and the theremin like lead would help in my opinion.

I'm no mixing engineer or anything like that, but the eq on the arpegiated lead seemed a little muddy as well.

Please don't take these as knocks on your work. I liked this a lot! Just giving constructive criticism as requested. FWIW.

Same here. Not what I expected from the title, but I like it never-the-less. Sounds a bit like the music to the original Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy.

Nice one.

Thanks everyone!
I'll re-mix it when I get my setup sorted, and mastering will help as well. The main thing that stands out to me now is that it was written for vocals, and I should probably put them back. I always find that vocals get in the way of hearing everything else. Confused

If you ever release the track with vocals I'll certainly listen to it.

Andy ....... dude ..... I am not just blowing smoke ... This is a very well done piece! I love the moody melody and sliding notes. Very epic like ! The outro has lots of energy !!! A very FEEL GOOD song .......

I to was fooled and had immediate thoughts of cybernetic circuits and the Baron's ....... I know I have used this word alot but ... BRAVO ...

Very sincerely

Ditto Bill's words - I mean.....wow! I love it!

Would you mind if I asked you what kind of synths you used in it?

Cheerio,
Scott

It's all Soundfonts coming out of the Creative XFi Soundblaster. 11 Channels/Soundfonts of Synths, various types mostly pads, effects, and "voxy sizzle". Plus 3 Channels/Soundfonts of extra drums.
There's a main loop of percussion which goes all the way through. (Tuareg)
There's a full kit of "standard" drums playing out of the SR-16.
One track of bass, and three stereo guitars.

BTW Does anyone know how to get a printout of a directory structure? Then I could show you my Soundfont collection.

Open a DOS command prompt on the directory and type :

dir /b>t.txt

when it is a one level thing, otherwise use

dir /s /b>t.txt

for expanding the sub folders as well.

then open t.txt in notepad or something to edit it further (the /b switch leaves out most details already).

Okay,
It worked.
Here's a textfile of all the Soundfonts in my collection.
They were all free, mostly from Hammersound.
If anyone wants one (or twenty) and has trouble getting them anywhere else, PM me and we'll sort it out.
