I stumbled across this site today while looking for some e-drum parts. Does anyone know of a place to buy these pots/position sensors in "hobbyist" quantities?

Roland and Hart use these in their hi-hat controllers to provide different amounts of open-ness on the cymbals. These would obviously make good, sturdy ribbon controllers.

Try contacting Josh here:

http://www.stribe.org/

He has a project currently using 170mm Softpots. I purchased a few from him a few months ago during a group buy. This link goes to a forum post with information regarding purchase:

JKS is correct! I requested a 12" long sample for an upcoming ribbon controller and they popped one in an envelope for me!

They are intriguing but looking at the datasheet I'm wondering if maybe they need a firmer contact pressure than would be desirable. It is a mechanical rather than capacitive system. If you get one let us know.
