Yes, I know that some people will not be able to make it to Tennessee. I'm sorry that we could not continue in Cheltenham, or find another venue in the Philadelphia area. But perhaps we will attract some new participants that might find this location more convenient. _________________ www.gregwaltzer.com |

| It looks like a great facility. I'll be at the Philadelphia Folk Festival that weekend but I did look it up to see just how far away from Philadelphia this place is. According to Google, it's 535 mi – about 8 hours 50 mins. Not as bad as I thought. |

I guess the practical questions will all be answered in the announcement, but a couple quick ones come to mind.
1. Nearest practical airport?
2. Are the hotel(s), campgrounds etc. close to Kingsport? Will you be making recommendations?
Thanks. _________________ Ordinary Machinery . . . frightened her . . . It seemed to take up an Absurd Amount of Space. |

This area is known as The TriCities. Thus the name of our airport: Tri Cities Airport.
There are three cities all about 15 miles apart: Kingsport, Johnson City, and Bristol. Many of you may have heard of Bristol Speedway which is located here. We had a big NASCAR race here a few days ago.
There are plenty of good hotels and motels within a couple of miles of the venue, Kingsport Renaissance Center. You will be pleased at how affordable and nice they are. I will compile a list of recommendations. For starters you can look at these:
MeadowView is a very, very nice hotel with a fine 18 hole golf course and tennis courts. The rates are about $89-$120 a night. They have valet parking, and a very nice restaurant. The service is top notch. I believe the pool will be closed in August because they are going to build more rooms. MeadowView is about 2 miles from the venue.

Here's the Jameson Inn. It also is about 2 miles away and costs about $77 a night:

There is a wonderful state park about 6 or 7 miles from the venue. Warrior's State Park offers camping year round. It also has a nice 18 hole public golf course, excellent mountain bike trails, fishing, boating, horseback riding, and a nationally known Frisbee golf course. I live about 1 mile from it, and it really is a fabulous park. http://www.tennessee.gov/environment/parks/WarriorsPath/
The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is about one and a half hours from here.
Kingsport is about 5 hours from Atlanta, 4 1/2 hours from Nashville and Charlotte, 2 hours from Knoxville, 6 hours from Louisville and Richmond, and 1 1/2 hours from Asheville. Interstates 81 and 26 cross here.
I will compile more info, and perhaps Mosc and Greg can create a web page. _________________ Mark Mahoney

It is offical now. We have a go on the Tennesse event. I spoke to the center's director and we have secured the dates.
August 14 - 8:00 PM - 11:30 PM
August 15 - Noon - 11:30 PM
August 16 - Noon - 11:30 PM
The Renaissance Center
Kingsport, Tennessee
It looks like a beautiful place. The people that run the center are very nice and seem to be very accommodating. There is a possibility that we can serve beer as well as water and sodas. We can sell refreshments. There are restaurants near by. There are many low cost motels and camping grounds.
Greg and I will be visiting Kingsport in early May on the way back from City Skies in Atlanta.
Gotta whip out an announcement and set up a website.

Well well well, I never thought I'd see the day.
I guess I will be coming this year since this is practically within walking distance. |

| Practically as in not quite really. It's within riding distance though, except the roads around here are too dangerous for horses. |

Oh, I remember my last drive through that neck of the woods, Little Rock AK to Blacksburg VA in one day, on the way home from dropping off my daughter at college in New Mexico, with a stop in Nashville for lunch and 45 minutes picking one of the best banjos I have ever gotten my hands on. (The previous day was Albuquerque to Little Rock, no mean feat in itself.) I was so tired by the time I got to the Bristol area, I put on some of the most abrasive free-jazz-era John Coltrane I had with me for stimulation, but it just scrambled my brain, so I had to shut it off and open the windows. I was so glad to arrive at my nephew's house in Blacksburg, apparently 2.5 hours from this year's venue.
Hope I can get off work. _________________ Ordinary Machinery . . . frightened her . . . It seemed to take up an Absurd Amount of Space. |

Good luck in TN! |

Looks like a great venue, but those dates are right smack in the middle of my "crunch" time in the magazine world, so there's no way I can escape and attend. Doesn't look good for the rest of the Brainstatik crew either, so you'll have to carry on without us. God, I'm going to miss you all!!!! Have fun anyway! _________________ www.brainstatik.com
