Hi - coming back to SC after a few years absence - i wanted to have it running on my old g3 powerbook (using it as an effects unit really) but i can't get SC 3.2 to run on my ppc g3 - i know that it has to do with how it is complied - so i installed xcode and built it using gcc 3.3 (instead of 4)
- got the info from here - http://swiki.hfbk-hamburg.de:8888/MusicTechnology/789 - but it still won't work. when i start the localhost server i get an error 33724 server failed to start.
does anyone have sc 3.2 running on a ppc g3? or does anyone have a link to a build for a pcc g3?

k

The most recent binary for 10.3 is pretty old actually (July 2007).

https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=155616

--> SuperCollider 3 OSX PPC gcc3

I also found this in a fairly recent email on the mailing list:

project builder support was dropped long ago (maybe 2 or 3 years ago).
So getting a hold of that file now is totally useless.

The minimum requirements to build SC with today's svn sources are a
10.4.x+ system.

Attempting a build on something older than that is quite a challenge,
real time consuming and will result too hard if not impossible to
maintain.

The last time I worked on this was the time I posted those builds and
the process I followed was something like this:

1 - Get the list of files on all of the 3 projects; The synth, plugins
and the lang (with sclang if you want that too).
2 - Create 3 pb projects and make the settings on each project that
are necessary to accomplish the desired target (App for the lang,
etc...).
3 - Attempt a first build and it is at this point that things start to
get interesting because you will get a million unsatified dependencies
and inexistent cocoa methods so you will have to:
- satisfy dependencies with external libraries as much as you can. you
may cheat here (I did) by 'borrowing' headers and creating patched
libs for the old sdk from info in the new sdks.
- patch sc sources and implement code to support as much and as
closely as possible all of the missing cocoa methods in order to
supply the same functionality that exists in 10.4+ systems and try a
build again.

The result will be (or should be) a scaled down version of sc on 10.4+.
Here are some things that will be missing as I can recall from the top
of my head of now but there is a bunch of other stuff I dont remember
atm:

- QuartzComposer is totally out of the question.
- Wii support Maybe added if you make a port of the libraries needed.
- the html help file system has to be totally reimplemented (or stay
with the old rtf).

hope this helps and good luck,

Emphasis on the good luck...
James
